Best Football Books of All-Time

!±8± Best Football Books of All-Time

For those of us who love football, the season does not end with the Superbowl. With the emergence of the internet (and even the NFL network), following your favorite teams and players, even in the off-season, has never been easier. But as great as this type of coverage is, there's no better way to get the real behind-the-scenes feel than by reading some of the great football books out there. Here is a quick list of some of my favorite football books of all time.

Seeing as how I am also an avid golf fan, I have been familiar with John Feinstein for a number of years. And though Feinstein's books about golf are incredible reads, so too was his first foray into the NFL with Next Man Up. Detailing the 2005 Baltimore Ravens, this book gives one of the best behind-the-scenes glimpses of what life in the NFL is really all about.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Friday Night Lights chronicles the 1988 Permian Panthers, a high school football team in Odessa, Texas where football is more than just a game. Most people are probably familiar with the movie and recent TV show but H.G. Bissinger's book is one of the all-time football greats and is a must-read.

Lastly, Paper Lion by the late George Plimpton details the unlikely rise of a journalist turned NFL Quarterback is not only one of the most humorous football books, but one of the funniest books about ANY sport. And though it was written in 1965, Plimpton's self-deprecating descriptions of life as an NFL player are spot on and still as relevant today as they were over forty years ago. These books are, in my opinion, the three greatest football books of all-time and are certainly must reads for any football fanatic!
